Natural Tropic Company in just first 5 years has managed to reach an annual turnover of 13 million Euros thanks to the professionalism and enterprising spirit of its founders, a married couple, Prudencio Lopez, the manager and Vanesa Medina, the technical director.

Located on the Costa Tropical, Velez Malaga municipality, the firm Natural Tropic was founded in 2009 by these two young agricultural engineers who decided to commercialize avocado and mango all year around. But they decided to go one step further in their project by growing their own produce and therefore control the process from the crops to the final customer to secure the supply and avoid farmers’ speculation at certain times in the campaign

For this purpose, they acquired a 45 hectare farm in the municipality and will continue to extend the plantation area in the next few years in order to double their own production.

“One of the obstacles of this sector is the large number of interests involved in order to meet the market demand, this is why we support the creation of associations that go hand in hand with the marketing sector” pointed out the manager, Prudencio Lopez, as request for the creation of the new Spanish Association of Subtropical fruits’ producers created a few months ago.

Natural Tropic’s star product is the avocado which represents 70% of the turnover; however, mango is becoming more important due to the progressive expansion of the Spanish production.
“In 2012, 20 million kilos of mango have been grown in Spain and 45 million are expected in the next 5 years. The problem is that 90% of the production of the variety that Osteen is aiming for, only lasts two months. Therefore, we should opt for extending the season with new varieties and greenhouse growing techniques as has already been done by other farmers”, Lopez says.

The company’s facilities with more than 1,800 m2 are equipped with the latest technology in selection and packing equipment, being pioneers with the latest acquisition of equipment to wash mangos. They work with brand names such as Natural Tropic and Deseo, as well as with their ecological line called Natural Tropic Bio which represents 15% of their turnover.

They are 90% exporters whose market is primarily European. They are well known for their commitment and formality in their shipments, highlighting their accommodation to their clients’ needs.
