La Cueva restaurant goes back to 1948, when Manuel Diaz Granados, a civil guard, left his hometown of Periana to come to the coast and try his luck in the restaurant business

He opened a humble place in a discreet small town where he catered to his clients’ needs for 30 years with the help of excellent personnel whom he found in Francisco Ruiz Diaz, the right person to continue with his legacy. In 1988, Francisco Ruiz Diaz took over with his brother José who was until then a pastry chef in Madrid. Together they were determined to bring this name to the top (maximum expression) by uniting the great customer service of one and the cooking experience of the other.

Since then, there have been many expansions to adapt to the demands of their grateful customers. The bar area nearly doubled from 17 to 33 metres, and later they had to build a lounge (it used to be no more than a terrace with walls and no ceiling), for those who preferred eating at the table and the restaurant expanded into nearby premises.

After the last refurbishment in 2005, La Cueva offers, apart from its well known bar area, a cosy comfortable lounge for up to 50 people and a large terrace overlooking Paseo de Larios where you can enjoy the perfect weather of this area all year around.

Nowadays, that small town called Torre del Mar, has become a tourist icon in the Axarquia Region, and 20 years later, La Cueva’s personnel of 20 people with our constant urge to excel, continued relentlessly to make an effort to please our guests with our deep-fried fish, seafood and carefully made homemade desserts with the hope to satisfy their expectations for many more years.
