María Zambrano Park

Vélez-Málaga

María Zambrano Park was opened on December 4th, 2003. It is located in one of the city fastest growing areas west of Velez Malaga. It is the municipality largest green area with a large grassy meadow and a large area of trees and shrubs. This is all irrigated by water from a well located in the park which supplies the irrigation system and the filling of the pond.
It has an extensive network of roads and trails which make it an ideal place to walk or practice sports like jogging or gymnastic circuits. Recently sport courts such as two paddle-tennis courts, a sport circuit and changing rooms have been built at the end of the park.
The lake consists of a landscaped island inside where ducks are bred and a water dispenser (geyser type). Other services available are children playgrounds, health equipment for the elderly, washrooms and lawn bowling area. The city Pentanque Club headquarters with its eight tracks is based here. Looking north from this park, you can see the Tejeda and Almijara mountains and the City Fortress. It is therefore, an ideal place to unwind and relax and enjoy the many cultural events that take place in the summer like a movie theatre.
