This is a touristic and cultural project to revitalize the monumental and archaeological site of the ancient quarries in Valle Niza (Almayate) through the enhancement of its Artistic Historical Heritage. After a detailed analysis of the site potential and the archaeological and historical information about its past gathered to this date, we can confirm that its patrimonial and historical interest is particularly marked by the existence of the well known quarry in Almayate which used to provide the raw material used in the construction of Malaga Cathedral and the Marquis Castle.
The Valle Niza quarry archaeological site is expected to be transformed into a themed area about the history of man and stone which will hopefully become a reference site on this subject.

NAME:
San Pitar will be the site’s chosen name. It is the etymological origin of San Pedro (Saint Peter), holy stone which is linked to the Mozarab name given to the Axarquia region.  There is evidence about the occupation of the place by a Mozarab Monastery which reminds us all of the strong Christian/Mozarab influence.
