Benajarafe

A coastal district whose origin was an old Medieval farmstead in Vélez territory; in fact, its name is Arabic in origin.

Most of the population is located in the coastal area taking the N-340 (old national coastal road) as the centre for urban development. There is also an inland part called Benajarafe Alto where many scattered groups of houses are found.

Standing out as an important element in this territory, the Torre Vigía (watch tower) from the XVIII century better known as Torre Gorda or Torre Moya which is located on top of a hill 15 metres above sea level and the N-340 (old National coastal road).

It is a typical tower with semicircular base extended by two straight wings and a front with protruding buttresses.

This town’s greatest attraction is without a doubt, the almost 2 km of beaches which have been awarded the Blue Flag, the “Q” for Ecobeach and tourist quality
