The Royal gate and walls of the old moorish city

Vélez-Málaga

La Medina (the old Muslim city) was protected by a walled belt that precisely marked its boundaries until the XIII century. To be able to get in and out of the urban centre, three gates were used (Granada’s, Antequera’s and Malaga’s), only the Royal Gate of the old city (the old Malaga one) was preserved as it remained inside the urban centre due to the suburban growth during the XIV century. It has a curved access with semicircular arches protected by a large rectangular tower used to protect it.

Location: Plaza de la Constitución (Constitution Square)

Opening hours: It can be viewed from the street.
